Research Goals:

Develop systems for managing insect/mite pests of sorghum that reduce production costs and hazards, ensure stable and profitable yields, and are ecologically sound, scientifically based and sustainable. Goal accomplishment is through identification, evaluation, and development of insect-resistant sorghums; determination of resistance mechanisms, plant-to-insect pest and insect pest-to-plant biological responses, insect pest density/damage relationships, and economic injury levels; and integration of insect/mite-resistant sorghums into integrated pest management strategies. Current research appointment is 55%.

Academic Goals:

Enhance undergraduate and graduate programs in teaching in the areas of economic entomology and plant resistance to insects by providing up-to-date instruction in the theory and practice of managing field crop insect pests. Current teaching responsibilities include direction of programs of six graduate students and teaching Entomology 402 (Field Crop Insects). Current teaching appointment is 45%.
