Boll Weevil Survival and Emergence Forecast | |
| What is the Boll Weevil Survival and Emergence Program? | The Boll Weevil Survival and Emergence Forecast estimates the survival of overwintering boll weevils based on when the weevils entered diapause and the weather conditions of the host habitat, and predicts daily emergence starting from the first day of emergence until all surviving boll weevils have emerged. |

The program requires weather data, location and habitat type to produce survival and emergence output. Required weather data consists of daily maximum and minimum temperatures (Fahrenheit), and rainfall (1/100 inch) from diapause initiation (September 1 st in the late summer) until final emergence of the final surviving weevils from the overwintering habitats (August 31 st of the following summer). When current weather data is not made available by the user, the program uses default weather file created based on the historic weather data for the selected location. Default weather data can be browsed and/or updated before it is used. The following is the user dialog to input required information.

Boll Weevil Survival and Emergence Forecast produces four types of output: |

1. Survival estimates in tabular form |
Includes estimates for all three habitats (if all of them are selected and results are available) per cohort. The user can print this table. The following is a sample screen for this type of output. |

2. Weekly emergence estimates in tabular form |
These files are classified by cohort and week of emergence, truncated to the period from April 7th to July 30th. Survival estimates for each cohort are displayed at the bottom of the table. This table can be printed. |
3. Daily emergence estimates in tabular form |
Output files which contain daily emergence estimates. The files are generated for each selected habitat, and the daily emergence estimates are represented for each cohort in each file. To cover the variability caused by unusual weather conditions, the emergence period is extended from February 19th through November 15th for these files. This table can not be printed through the program. |
4. Daily emergence estimates in graphical form |
The boll weevil daily emergence estimates can be line graphed. Before displaying the graph, the program asks the user to choose a habitat and a location. The user may choose up to twelve cohorts to plot at a time, but selecting four or fewer cohorts at a time yields a better view. The following is a sample screen for graphical output. |
